Welcome to Country by local Aboriginal Elders
The Welcome to Country is a ceremony that is very important to the Aboriginal people of Australia, it recognises the past history and culture of the indigenous people and the land they come from and represent.
Anyone can do an Acknowledgement of Country, but you must have an Elder of the land you are standing on to give the Welcome to Country.
Each Elder has their own way of giving the Welcome with many giving an incite into their peoples history, culture and close ties to the land on which you are standing.
The Welcome to Country can just be a verbal Welcome but can also include the fire/smoke ceremony, didgeridoo playing and traditional song and dance to give more of an idea of the rich cultural heritage of the Aboriginal people of Australia.
The Welcome to Country at the beginning of any event especially where you have many international delegates attending provides them with an insight and more of an understanding of Aboriginal history and closeness to the land.
